Punchneedle for Spring
I really love the colors and images of spring - it was so hard to decide what to include here!
"Spring Roundabout" is a wonderful larger piece reminiscent of a round hooked rug. I especially enjoyed punching this one with a variety of threads to create that soft rabbit, wooly lamb, and fluffy chicks frolicking in a spring "meadow"! I used all 3 sizes of punchneedles in an 8" hoop for this one and the threads include Rainbow Gallery's Petite Alpaca and Wisper, Caron Collection's Impressions, size 8 perle cotton from Weeks Dye Works - plus some wonderful shades of floss, both solids and overdyeds. This selection of threads really makes the design come alive, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Are you a ladybug fan? This chartpak has 2 versions for you! The small ladybug is just a bit over 1" across, punched with just the 1 strand needle and 2 colors of floss - fits nicely on a wool "leaf" you can easily make yourself. I've included a piece of lovely hand dyed green wool in the chartpak along with templates and instructions - I finished the model into a scissor fob, but it would make a terrific pin as well.
The larger ladybug (about 3") is punched with size 5 perle cottons in a 6-strand punchneedle - it gives you a great texture, but you can also use floss in the other needles as well. Rather than punching the spots on this one, I used an assortment of black buttons - in fact, this applique is actually attached to the pillow by sewing the buttons last through all thicknesses. A full size template for the leaf pillow is included as well as complete instructions for finishing.
Looking for a special "treat" for that Easter basket? Use your 1 strand needle to punch a colorful topper for a box or create an ornament! This little design is full of wonderful spring colors, a bit of sculpting for dimension, and accented with a little clay "peep" button and two small lilac colored "chips". We mounted ours onto an oval papier mache box, trimmed it with a bit of cording made from some "frizzy" Arctic Rays thread - and lastly, glued some yellow gingham ribbon around the box itself. It's so pretty and just begs for something special to be tucked inside!
A multi-use iron-on transfer is included in this chartpak to stamp the punchneedle design on your choice of fabric.
