Counted Cross Stitch Designs from Erica Michaels

Punchneedle Penny Series – Winter

Punch your own Punchneedle Pennies all year! Each chartpak comes with the multi-use iron-on transfer and a lovely piece of hand-dyed weaver's cloth by Lakeside Linens & Designs, especially chosen for each design. The designs are also embellished with the wonderful clay buttons from Just Another Button Company; which are readily available from your needlework or quilt retailer. Each is sized to finish around 4'' in diameter so a 6'' hoop will work nicely.

Each piece is designed to show off the colored weaver's cloth, but if you prefer a more solid look, you can easily draw a circle around your design (directly onto the fabric with the rest of the transferred design) and fill in with a background color of your choice, perhaps one that blends with the background fabric color. Just be sure to leave some of that lovely background fabric exposed when you finish your piece.

Instructions for the seasonal wall hangings shown are included in each chartpak, so collect them all and display them year round! Wools from Weeks Dye Works are used in our models, but many of you can go to your stash and find some great colors to use! Or-mount the pennies on box tops, scrapbook covers, basket toppers - let your imagination take off!

Holiday baking is a favorite pastime for many of us - whether in the baking or the eating! Here's a little gingerbread man that will brighten a corner of your home during the holidays. JANUARY - Catching Flakes
We've all looked up to the sky to catch snowflakes on a winter day -- right? January is the month for snowmen and this one is catching lots! The "purple iris" color of the weaver's cloth is a wonderful background for the snowy colors and the mitten buttons.

Fill in the background a similar rich color for added texture if you like. I used 1 and 3 strand punchneedles and just 3 colors of floss!
Punchneedle Penny Series – FEBRUARY - Love Birds -- click to see more

FEBRUARY - Love Birds
Two little birds perched in this tree... I don't know if anyone carves their sweetheart's initials into trees anymore, do you? There is lots of texture in this design using both 1 and 3 strand punchneedles and varying the loop height.

The biggest contrast comes with the heart shaped cut-out; it's punched from the "right" side of the design (the loops will be on the wrong side here). This really makes for a look that the heart has been carved into the bark of the tree, and is so easy to do just flip your hoop over!
