Because of the Brave

This short phrase really sums it up—doesn’t it?
The pillow model is stitched on a soft grey/blue shade of 28ct linen using just 2 colors of floss—the red stripes get their texture from three different specialty stitches that are diagramed for you in the leaflet. Rhodes stitches, Rice stitches, and Reversed Scotch stitches are all easy to work, but are best on an evenweave fabric. If you are an Aida fan—you can easily substitute cross stitches in their place. A few clay stars are sprinkled in for embellishment.
The framed model uses 2 other shades of red and blue—this time stitched over 1 thread of 18ct linen—using cross stitches and backstitching. If you prefer to stitch over 2 threads, by all means go ahead! It will work just as well as long as you adjust the number of ply you stitch with to be compatible with your fabric choice.
I embellished this one with an old
“service star” pin that belonged to my great-grandmother when my great-uncle served in WWI. The space for embellishment in this design provides a good spot for that special memento you might have.
